In this pack you will discover one by one the rooms of the "1562 La Furia del Mar" Interpretation Center inside La Herradura Castle.Today the Bay of La Herradura is a quiet place but in the 18th century the area was the scene of incursions and landings by pirates and corsairs, so in 1764 Carlos III decreed the construction of a defensive castle-fortress that communicated with the towers lookout for Cerro Gordo and Punta de la Mona.The Castle was used by the army until 1839 when, once piracy had ceased, it was ceded to the Carabineros, whose mission was to guarantee the security and surveillance of the coasts and borders as well as to prevent smuggling. After the Police Corps was abolished in 1940, it was occupied by the Civil Guard, who used it as a barracks house until 2003.The interpretation centre located inside the castle was inaugurated on March 19, 2021 and commemorates the shipwreck of the Armada in 1562, a tragic milestone in the history of Spanish navigation that occurred in La Herradura.
